About
Flow Forge is built by Fernando Izquierdo, a spatial data engineer with over 30 years in software development and 15 years specializing in oil and gas geospatial systems.
The Story
I've spent my career building spatial data pipelines—wrangling shapefiles, transforming coordinate systems across dozens of basins, and connecting legacy systems to modern platforms. I've been an FME Certified Professional for years and genuinely respected the product.
But in July 2023, I was quoted $7,300 for an annual license. The math didn't work for independent work, and I realized I wasn't alone. There are a lot of spatial data engineers, consultants, and small teams who need serious ETL capabilities but can't justify enterprise pricing.
So I started building an alternative.
When I discovered DuckDB's spatial extension, the architecture came together. An analytical engine that processes millions of features in seconds, with a SQL interface that makes complex operations readable. The missing piece was a visual workflow builder that could harness this power without requiring users to write code.
That's Flow Forge: a modern spatial ETL that combines DuckDB's performance with an intuitive visual interface, wrapped in a fast, native desktop app built with Rust and Tauri.
